It is not painful and only takes a few minutes. It can take up to seven days before the injection starts to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e64fcff49fbc30e6a94bef67e7f2b172\" style=\"color:#381d53\">How good is the injection at preventing a pregnancy?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-dda08c13eff7abed1fa6076d87c95929\">\n<li>The injection works very well at preventing a pregnancy.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If 100 women used the injection for a year and carried on with their normal sex life, then only 1 of those women would fall pregnant during that period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9082df9c40c552431d4ab1b35a0bb40f\" style=\"color:#381d53\">What are other good things about the injection?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-8a894443b5586ee2091d7de6e70ebc14\">\n<li>You can take it straight after an abortion.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can last up to either 2 or 3 months, depending on the injection. After each 2 or 3 month period you will need to have another injection.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can help to reduce heavy periods.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It does not interrupt sex.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3b65079b61407afd2a67afd3f1228353\" style=\"color:#381d53\">What else should you know?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-f25db4d8892a0e1e67eb49a8d02c1332\">\n<li>If you decide you don\u2019t want it any more, you will have to wait 2 or 3 months after you\u2019ve had the injection for its effects to end. For some women it may take a few more months for fertility to return.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlike&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mariprist.com\/fr\/contraception\/short-term-contraception\/male-condom\/\">condoms<\/a>, it does not protect you from sexually transmitted infections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-08681ee0ab793270ac0bcca55c87ef58\" style=\"color:#381d53\">Day to day life with your injection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-bb1241cf88b51c622e886f930d1e1d84\">\n<li>Your regular bleeding pattern may change while using the injection. For example, your periods may stop for a short while or your periods may be irregular for a few months. These changes are not serious and are short-term. Your health and long term fertility will be unaffected.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your injection will continue to work even if your bleeding pattern changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-02bb36b5f994611a38e1c89cf041c686\" style=\"color:#381d53\">Questions fr\u00e9quemment pos\u00e9es<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-258b88272daeed3cda059e2caedb919c\">\n<li><strong>Does the injection cause weight gain or a fever or bleeding into the stomach?<\/strong><br>Some women using the injection will gain a small amount of weight. Typically this will be 1-2kg per year. Other women using the injection may lose weight. The injection does not cause a fever or bleeding into the stomach.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Can I still fall pregnant if I stop the injection?<\/strong><br>Yes. The injection will not permanently end your fertility. Some women do not return to their pre-injection fertile state immediately when they stop the injection. It can be a couple of months before periods start again.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do I have to have follow up injections at exactly the right time?<\/strong><br>If you want to rely on the injections as a means of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mariprist.com\/fr\/contraception\/\">contraception<\/a>&nbsp;then it is important that you attend for a follow up injection at around the right time. It will still be effective if you are a couple of weeks early or late for your repeat injection.
